St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton

OASIS Partner: Hagon Design   Website: www.stjoes.ca

One of Canada's largest healthcare organizations takes advantage of the power and ease-of-use of the OASIS Content Management System.

Background

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton is one of Canada’s premier academic, research and treatment healthcare organizations. With staff at multiple locations, and partnerships with McMaster University and Mohawk College, SJHH has earned a national reputation for outstanding patient care, innovation, and medical and surgical treatments. In 2013, SJHH recognized the need to redesign and develop its web properties to better service their patients, employees and partners.

The Project

Hagon Design and Sandbox Software won a joint bid to design and develop the new St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton website. The new site needed to speak to a wide demographic and a diverse range of stakeholders. In doing so, it needed to exceed mandated accessibility standards, make use of the latest technologies and simplify site navigation through a content-rich website. The new site also had to be easily maintained by staff using a cutting edge Content Management System, while integrating with a number of third-party tools used by the organization.

Outcomes

Collaborating with Hagon Design, Sandbox Software conducted an innovative and highly participative “website focus group” with both internal stakeholders and members of the served public. Sandbox software implemented a brilliant design using its state-of-the-art OASIS web content management system and custom coding. A Sandbox consultant supported the development of a content strategy that would work within the constraints of business processes and the regulated environment of healthcare communication.

As the project unfolded, Sandbox Software and the SJHH team recognized and acted on a realization that the creation of microsites could better route web traffic and create a more focused and pleasant user experience. This led to the creation of a new Human Resources microsite (focused on employee recruitment), and a new website for St. Joseph’s Home Care. Further, the project also included the implementation of a secured Board Portal for the SJHH Board of Directors and its committees.
