Local Police Association uses OASIS to promote their community involvement and trusts OASIS with sensitive member information within their members portal.

Background

The Guelph Police Association (GPA) - representing almost 200 Police and 90 Civilian members of the Guelph Police Service – works to ensure fair treatment of its members, the provision of a safe and healthy work environment in a perilous profession, and, through the volunteer hours contributed by our members to a wide range of causes, contributes to building community. Directors of the GPA realized that enhance communication with the public, and amongst the membership would further the aims of the organization. Among needs identified for a presence on the web were the provision of information about upcoming activities in the community, delivery of news and information about association activities, and abilities to support opinion collection from members.

The Project

Sandbox Software collaborated with the Guelph Police Association to develop a website and private membership online portal that delivers on both presence and functionality. The appealing website, built in the OASIS web content management system, includes a rich calendar with registration features, rich tools for news and community information management, an Honour Roll for officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and essential information about the Association’s structure and leadership. A members’ only portal includes survey/voting tools for opinion collection, a buy/sell resource, and a forum for members to respectfully discuss topics of mutual interest.

Outcomes

The website and membership portal allows the Guelph Police Association to better promote its community work and more effectively engage in dialogue with its membership.
